Together on a Learning Adventure

Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

In Year 6, Miss Derrick is the class teacher and we are supported by Mrs Davies Monday and Tuesday mornings and Mrs Rolfe all day on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Mrs Davies also will be teaching art every Tuesday afternoon.

Our PE days this term are Monday and Wednesday. Please come to school wearing your kit on these days.

Our forest school day this term is Thursday 14th September. Children must be dressed appropriately for the weather conditions.

Topic

Our topic for terms 1 and 2 is Maafa.

We will be exploring ancient African kingdoms, the Triangular Slave Trade, Britain's role and the human impact as well as life on a plantation and the abolition of slavery.

Our class novel for the topic is Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morgpurgo.

The topic will also flow through our wider curriculum as we explore:

  • In English, warning stories and news reports;
  • In Art we will study tints, tones and shades;
  • In Science we will explore the circulatory system;

In Maths, we will continue to follow the WhiteRose scheme. In terms 1 and 2 we will be covering the following areas.

  • Place Value
  • Addition and Subtraction
  • Multiplication and Division
  • Fractions

If you wish to follow White Rose at home, you can see the yearly overview, small steps and individual lesson resources.Maths home learning | Home learning | White Rose Maths (whiteroseeducation.com)
