Single form entry

 

Since the last inspection the school has become a single form entry school.

 

The school’s popularity has increased and in September 2014 we achieved our long term goal of having seven single age classes with significant benefits to teaching and learning.

 

School facilities

 

Since our last inspection the school facilities have greatly improved:

 

  • We now have an award-winning Reception classroom designed to encourage free flow learning both indoors and outdoors combined with an additional room for Reception group activities
  • All classes have new laptops, combined with a superb Wi-Fi system, enabling them to use IT in all appropriate lessons. There are also sets of IPads
  • We now have a visualiser in each classroom to support teaching and learning
  • We now have a KS1, Lower KS2 and Upper KS2 additional teaching space for small group activities
  • We have two large Elliott classrooms in the school field
  • We have three new well-equipped adventure playgrounds with artificial grass playing surfaces and an outdoor stage
  • We have an area of our woods that we regularly use for Forest School and outdoor lessons
  • We now have an additional large field which we are licensed to use which has been bought by the Local Authority for future educational needs
  • We now have a Breakfast Club and an After School Care Club

 

Awards

 

Since our last inspection the school has developed its PSHE ethos:

 

  • We are currently working on gaining recognition as an ‘Attachment Aware’ school
  • We were the first school in the West of England to be awarded Gold level Modeshift Stars award in 2019 for our efforts to encourage parents to travel actively to school. We were also named B&NES' primary school of the year two years' running in 2018 and 2019 for our school travel planning and activities
  • We gained a Silver Mark Games award in 2016
  • Our Forest School teacher was a finalist in the category ‘Outstanding Advocate for Learning Outside the Classroom’ in the national LOtC Awards 2015
  • We gained the Inclusion Quality Mark awarded in 2011 and again in 2014
  • We gained the Food4Life Bronze awarded in 2014
  • We gained the Healthy Schools Plus award in 2011

 

Pupils’ achievements

 

Since our last inspection pupils’ achievement has been consistently high:

 

  • The school is consistently in the top five B&NES schools for achievement 
  • In 2016 we were one of only two B&NES schools in in the Sunday Times Parent Power rankings (ranked 286 out of the 600 schools listed). The lists judged schools on the basis of Y6 SAT results from 2013-2015
  • In 2014 we were 5th in B&NES for children achieving the expected level in Maths, Reading and Writing, joint 1st in B&NES for average point score (31.9 which was 1.5 higher than the average for outstanding schools) and one of only two B&NES schools in the Daily Telegraph’s top 1000 schools in the country
  • In 2013 we were 1st in B&NES for children achieving Level 4 in Maths and English and appeared in the top 100 schools in the country
  • In 2012 we were joint 1st in B&NES for children achieving the expected level in Maths and English, 4th in B&NES for high achieving pupils and second in B&NES for average point score (DfE) and received an official letter of congratulations from Minister of State David Laws M.P. congratulating us on ‘the ‘excellent performance of our pupils in the 2012 national KS2 tests which combined with excellent progress in both English and Mathematics placed us amongst the top performing primary schools in the country’
  • In 2011 we were 4th in B&NES for children achieving the expected level in Mathematics and English, 4th in B&NES for high achieving pupils and second in B&NES for average point score (DfE)
  • In 2010 we were 4th in B&NES for children achieving the expected level in Mathematics and English, 9th in B&NES for high achieving pupils in English and 2nd in Mathematics and 4th in B&NES for average point score (DfE)
