EYFS

Welcome to Bathampton Reception. We have a very hands on, play-based approach to learning in Reception. We utilise our fantastic bespoke classroom and vast grounds to support learning. Our aim is for every child to achieve their best through fun, imaginative, hands-on activities that have meaning to 4 and 5 year olds. Play is the kind of learning where not only the children don’t realise they are learning, but many adults don’t realise either!

Early Years Curriculum

The statutory Foundation Stage Curriculum (also known as the EYFS) has seven key areas of learning. These are broken into 3 prime areas and 4 specific areas, as follows:

PRIME AREAS

  • Communication and Language

  • Physical Development

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

SPECIFIC AREAS

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

During a child’s first half term at school, the prime areas are the key focus of our learning, as children settle into new routines. These prime areas then continue to underpin our work throughout the Reception year, ensuring we have happy children that will thrive and succeed as they continue in their learning journey.
