Year 3

Welcome to Year 3 Lego Tree Class

In Year 3, Ms Ovigne and Mrs Wood are the class teachers and we are supported by the amazing Mrs Makepeace and Mrs Lewis.

Our PE days this term are Monday and Wednesday. Please come to school wearing your kit on these days.

Topic

Our topic for terms 5 and 6 is Romans. In this history topic we will be finding out about When the Romans were in Britain, Roman life, beliefs and conquests 

 

The topic will also flow through our wider curriculum as we explore:

  • In English, we will be focusing on Best Enemies. This will be a suspense text. We will be developing skills of description, building suspense and describing action. It will be followed by an instruction text called the How to train your naughty Jack Russell. You will find all the texts in our Talk for Writing Text section. 
  • In Science we will be focusing on Plants
  • In Art we will be studying Roman mosaics and building our own mini greenhouses
  • In ICT children will learn about using google and other search engines to locate information.
  • In French we will  be learning the names of ice creams and ordering them from our ice ream parlour.
  • ln RE we will be understanding the Hindu believe that they is one god with many aspects.
  • Our P.E. will be  Healthy Heroes (Mondays) and Tennis (Wednesday)
  • In PSHE our topic is Healthy Heroes and Relationships
  • In Music we will be focusing on composition and how to write our compositions using simple symbols. We will also be learning new songs.   

In Maths, we will continue to follow the White Rose scheme. In term 5 we will be covering the following areas:

Add and Subtract Fractions

Spelling

The whole school is now using a new scheme from the Spelling Shed. Children will continue to have weekly tests having spent time learning their spellings in class. They will also have a login to the Spelling Shed website where they will be able to play games to practise their spellings for that week. You can find the Year Three Spelling Plan in the Useful Documents section below.

 

Homework

Homework is set on Thursdays and is due in on Tuesday each week. It will be completed online (login details can be found in reading record books). Homework will be set from Thursday 14th September.

Reading- pupils read a scheme book, or novel if a free reader to an adult 5 times a week. Please record this in your child's reading record book.

Doodle Maths - children will be set activities based on in-class learning that week.

Doodle Times tables By the end of Year 4 all children are expected to know all their tables. So please practise these regularly.

Spelling Shed- children will have access to Spelling Shed's online platform, where weekly spelling lists set by the class teacher, can be found as well as games and activities that will help your child learn their spellings. Spelling tests will take place every Tuesday.
