EverybodyBelongs ~ Aspires ~ Thrives
Year 5 is taught by Ms Candlish and Miss Seymour. Ms Datta teaches on Tuesday afternoon and Mrs Liana-Stellmach on Wednesday afternoon. We are supported by the brilliant Mrs Yan and Mrs Liana-Stellmach.
Pupils will continue to explore an exciting range of learning across the curriculum.
In English, they will dive into the adventure story Kidnapped! and use it to inspire their own narrative writing. In Maths, pupils will consolidate key learning from previous terms to strengthen fluency and confidence.
In Science, learning links closely with PSHE as pupils study Animals Including Humans and the Changing Me unit, exploring how humans grow and change into adulthood.
After this, pupils will explore a rich mix of creative, historical and reflective learning. In Art, they will work with a range of mediums to create botanical artwork. In RE, pupils will complete their unit on how Sikhs show commitment before exploring how values are expressed across different worldviews. Throughout the term, pupils will also enjoy a variety of trips and workshops, enriching and extending their classroom learning.
Our topic for this term is Ancient Greece.
Our PE days for Term 6 are Monday and Wednesday. Please come to school wearing your school PE kit on these days, bringing school shoes in a separate bag to change into indoors if it is wet or muddy. Our PE this term will include cricket on Mondays, delivered by a specialist coach, and tennis on Wednesdays, with athletics woven in as we prepare for Sports Day.
Our ‘Drop Everything and Read’ day is Thursday. Parents are warmly invited to come into class and read with their child until the register is taken just before 9am. Please sign in at the school office in plenty of time if attending, and remember to leave with a school adult via the office so that you can sign out too.
Our library day is Friday – this is an opportunity to renew, return or withdraw books from the school library - please ensure reading records are brought in on that day.
This term’s Growing Wild session will be held on Friday 5th June*.
*In order to participate fully, please ensure that wellies and a waterproof coat are brought into school on that day (whatever the weather) and come dressed in comfortable, full-length trousers, and a top with long sleeves as we will be going into The Meadow. Please ensure snacks are in a lidded container. (It is very useful to also have a spare change of clothes which can be kept on your peg in the cloakroom. Waterproof coats and wellies need to be in school to maximise play times.)

✏️ Spelling Homework
Each child has a spelling book to practise words and patterns learned in school.
🗂️ At the start of each half-term:
🧠 Practise at home:
Children should practise their spellings each week using a variety of methods in their book or using Spelling Shed (online). Examples include:
🎨 Fun Spelling Strategies
📅 Weekly Quizzes:
Spelling quizzes take place during lessons and review both current and past spelling patterns. This helps teachers identify any areas for revision.
📖 Reading at Home
We encourage children to read 3–5 times per week with an adult.
👨👩👧 How you can help:
📘 Reading records are checked weekly by the class teacher every Thursday, which is also our library day.
