Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

In Year 6, Mrs Reynolds and Mrs Sheppard are the class teachers and we are supported by Mrs Davies and Miss Rizzo.

Our PE days this term (Term 2) are Monday and Wednesday . Please come to school wearing your kit on these days.

This term our parent sharing DEAR time will be Tuesday morning. Our Growing Wild afternoon will be Friday 7th November and our Forest School afternoon will be Thursday 11th December.

Topic

Our topic for Terms 1 and 2 is Ancient Greece.

This project teaches children about developments and changes over six periods of ancient Greek history, focusing on the city state of Athens in the Classical age, and exploring the lasting legacy of ancient Greece.

The topic will also flow through our wider curriculum as we explore:

In English, we will writing suspense stories and non-chronological reports
In Art we will studying mixed media .
In Science we will learning about how animals, including humans, change over time
In PSHE, we will be focusing on 'connectedness' under the topic of 'celebrating difference'

In Maths, we will be covering the following areas.

Multiplication and division
Geometry
Addition and subtraction through statistics
Fractions

Homework

Reading – pupils should read a ‘scheme’ book (or novel if free-reader) with an adult at least five times a week. Reading records are checked every Monday.

Spelling Shed - children will have access to Spelling Shed’s online platform where weekly spelling lists, set by the class teacher, can be found as well as games and activities to learn the spellings learnt in class.

Maths- two assignments will be set each Friday linked to current learning and recapping learning from the previous year.
