Together on a Learning Adventure

Willow - Year 4

Welcome to Willow Class

In Year 4, Ms Candlish and Mrs Lunn are the class teachers and we are supported by the brilliant Mrs Garrard and marvellous Miss Sloan. The fabulous Mrs Lunn, teaches on Tuesdays.

Our PE days this term are Tuesday and Thursday. Please come to school wearing your kit on these days.

This term, our forest school learning will be held on Wednesday 8th February. Please ensure that your child has waterproofs and wellies in school on this day.

Our topic for term 3 is Misty Mountain, Winding River. This project looks at the characteristics and features of rivers and mountain ranges around the world, including a detailed exploration of the ecosystems and processes that shape them and the land around them.

The topic will also flow through our wider curriculum as we explore:

  • In English, we will be covering finding tales (fiction) and persuasive writing (non-fiction).
  • In Art we'll learn about the techniques that artists use when composing landscape images, such as colour and atmosphere.
  • In Science we'll learn about states of matter. We'll learn about solids, liquids and gases and their characteristic properties. We'll observe how materials change state as they are heated and cooled, and learn key terminology associated with these processes.

For more information about each topic, pupils will be able to access knowledge organsiers in class.

Our class novel is King of the Cloud Forest by Michael Morpurgo

In Maths, we will continue to follow the White Rose scheme. In terms 3 and 4 we will be covering the following areas:

  • Multiplication and Division
  • Length and Perimeter
  • Fractions
  • Decimals

If you wish to follow White Rose at home, you can see the yearly overview, small steps and individual lesson resources here.
