Topic

Our topic for Term 3 and 4 is 'Coastline'. In this topic we learn about the physical and human features of coastal regions across the United Kingdom, including a detailed exploration of the coastal town of Whitby, in Yorkshire.

During the term we will read and explore a range of books. These include 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' and 'Katie Morag and the New Pier'

The topic will also flow through our wider curriculum as we explore:

  • In English, we will be continuing our warning story 'Kassim and the Greedy Dragon' Please see below for the story map children have been using to retell the story and a copy of the text. Later in the term we will continue to explore the theme of Dragons, we will be learning 'The Bath Ridge-back' text and creating our own non-chronological texts.
  • In DT we will be learning how to make a beach hut, making and strengthening structures, including different ways of joining materials.
  • In Science we will exploring the use of materials. Understanding the uses of everyday materials and how materials' properties make them suitable or unsuitable for specific purposes.

In Maths, we will continue to follow the White Rose scheme. In Term 3 we will be covering the following areas.

  • Shape
  • Money
  • Multiplication and Division
