Adders - Year 3

Welcome to Adder Class

In Year 3, Ms Ovigne and Mrs Wood are the class teachers and we are supported by the amazing Mrs Garrard.

Our PE days this term are Monday and Friday. Please come to school wearing your kit on these days.



Our topic for terms 3 and 4 is Rocks, Relics and Rumbles. In this geography topic we will be exploring events that change the shape of the Earth  including volcanoes and earthquakes.


The topic will also flow through our wider curriculum as we explore:

  • In English, we will be continuing with our suspense story The Manor House and then we will be learning how to write a persuasive text. Our first model text will be 'Why Bathampton Primary School should have a swimming pool.' 
  • In Science we will finding out about forces and magnets. We will learn about different types of forces including contact and non-contact forces. We will undertake a number of fair tests that will investigate the impact of friction and increasing a force. We will learn how to use force meters and then go on to investigate magnetic materials.
  •  In Art we will be investigating fossils and create our own ammonite sketches. After half term our art project will be People and Places.
  • In DT we will be making mechanisms that use push and pull forces.
  •  In ICT children will learn about iSafe.  
  •  In French we will be writing to our French pen friends and learning to use je joue (I play) in the context of musical instruments.
  •  In RE we will studying Christianity Humanism and world views. We will be discussing the question could Jesus heal people? Were these miracles, or is there some other explanation?
  •  In PSHE we will learning about our own goals and achievements.
  • Our P.E. will be dance and communication and teamwork including orienteering. 


In Maths, we will continue to follow the White Rose scheme. In term 3 we will be covering the following areas:

  • Multiplication and division
  • Length and Perimeter

Spelling Frame 

All children from year 2-6 will have access to Spelling Frame’s online platform where weekly spelling lists, set by the class teacher, can be found as well as games and activities to learn spellings.  

Login information is stuck into homework books or reading records. Spelling lists will be stuck into homework books in the first week of term and are also available below.

In addition to daily reading, spelling and times tables practise, your child will bring home one pieces of work a week that will support their learning across the curriculum. This will be set on a Wednesday to be returned each Monday.
