Adders - Year 3

Welcome to Adder Class

In Year 3, Ms Ovigne and Mrs Wood are the class teachers and we are supported by the amazing Mrs Garrard, Mrs Chun and Miss Sloan.

Our PE days this term are Monday and Friday. Please come to school wearing your kit on these days.

 

Topic

Our topic for terms 1 and 2 is Through The Ages, please find the unit Knowledge organiser below. In this history topic we will be exploring the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.

 

The topic will also flow through our wider curriculum as we explore:

  •  In English, we will be covering poetry, and traditional stories.
  • In Science we will explore healthy eating  and the skeletal and muscular systems. We  will learn about the different bones in our body and different types of skeletons.
  •  In Art we will study the colour wheel, matching colours to paintings and creating patterns.
  • Our DT project will focus on food groups and the Eatwell guide. We will learn about different types of food and what constitutes a healthy diet. We will then use this information to design and make a healthy wrap.
  •  In Geography we will explore the topic of Our planet, our World. We will

        locate countries and cities, and use grid references and compasses.

        We will carry out fieldwork to discover how land is used in Bathampton

  • In ICT children will learn how we can use branching keys and bar charts to organise data. They will also collate information on a data base  
  •  Children will begin to learn French in Year 3 beginning with the topic I’m learning French which introduces how to ask and say our name, how we feel, numbers to 10 and colours.
  •  In RE we will study Hinduism, focusing on the question Would celebrating Divali at home and in the community bring a feeling of belonging to a Hindu child?
  •  In PSHE we will study being me in the world. We will learn what makes a happy school and how we can celebrate and recognise our own achievements.

In Maths, we will continue to follow the White Rose scheme. In terms 1 and 2 we will be covering the following areas:

· Place value

· Addition and Subtraction

· Multiplication and division

Our class novel for the topic is the Stone Age Boy, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and poetry by Michael Rosen.

 

 

Homework

In addition to daily reading, spelling and times tables practise, your child will bring home one pieces of work a week that will support their learning across the curriculum. This will be set on a Wednesday to be returned each Monday.
