Welcome to Acorn Class

In Year 6, Mrs Reynolds is the class teacher on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and Mrs Lunn is the class teacher on Monday. We are supported by the brilliant Mrs Cripps and Miss Sloan.

Our PE days this term (term 5) are Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school wearing your kit on these days.

The Curriculum: 

Topic: Our topic this term is Frozen Kingdoms (geography) which focuses on the characteristics and features of polar regions, including the North and South Poles, and includes a detailed exploration of the environmental factors that shape and influence them.

In our wider curriculum we will study:

• In English, we are writing a persuasive leaflet based on our recent residential trip, and a character description and newspaper report linked to our learning about the Titanic. 
• In Art, we will study distortion and abstraction. 
• In Science, will be exploring light.
• In PE, we will developing teamwork and creativity through cricket and rounders.
• In RE, we will be focusing on beliefs and moral values. 
• In Computing, we will be looking at networks, data representation, developing and designing apps and 3D animations. 
• In PHSE, we will be beginning our topic of relationships which includes looking after our mental health and staying safe online. 

In Maths, we will continue to follow the White Rose scheme. In terms 5 and 6 we will be covering the following areas.

• Shape
• Algebra
• Position and Direction 
• Maths projects combining skills from across the curriculum

Homework

In year 6, each child is given three CGP books (maths, SPAG and reading comprehension) with two sets of pages to complete linked directly to the learning we have covered that week. Homework is set on a Wednesday and due in on a Monday. In addition, daily reading, regular practise of times tables (through TT Rockstars) and weekly spellings are set.

Spelling

We use Spelling Frame’s online platform where weekly spelling lists can be found as well as games and activities to learn spellings. Login information is stuck into the reading records. Spelling lists are available each Wednesday.
