Acorns - Year 6

Welcome to Acorn Class


In Year 6, Mrs Reynolds is the class teacher on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and Mrs Lunn is the class teacher on Monday. We are supported by the brilliant Mrs Cripps and Miss Sloan.

Our PE days this term our Wednesday and Thursday. Please come to school wearing your kit on these days.



Our topic for term 1 is Maafa (history) and in term 2 Our Changing World (geography). Please find the unit knowledge organisers below.


In our wider curriculum we will study:

  • In English, we will be covering character description, story writing and persuasive speech.
  • In Art, we will study 'trailblazers' and 'barrier breakers' linked to our Maafa topic.
  • In Science, will find out about the circulatory system.
  • In DT, we will be examining a healthy diet and making bread.
  • In PE, we will be learning attacking and defending tactics in netball and tag rugby, developing mirroring and matching sequences in gymnastics and progressing our leadership skills through a dedicated leadership skills unit. 
  • In Music, we will be learning and performing 'Happy' by Pharrell Williams. 
  • In RE, we will be focusing on the religion of Islam and discussing 'What is the best way for Muslims to show commitment to God'. 
  • In Computing, we will be designing and developing programs. 


In Maths, we will continue to follow the White Rose scheme. In terms 1 and 2 we will be covering the following areas.

  • Place value
  • Addition and subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Fractions
  • Measurement

In addition to daily reading, spelling and times tables practise, your child will bring home three CGP books (maths, SPAG and reading comprehension) with two sets of pages to complete linked directly to the learning we have covered that week. Homework is set on a Wednesday and due in on a Monday.
